Mr. Redmond joined the United Steelworkers when he went to work for Reynolds Metals Co. in McCook, Ill. in 1973. He quickly became leader in Local 3911 and eventually served three terms as its president. In 1996, he came to Chicago, IL to serve on the USW’s international staff and in 1998, he moved to Pittsburg to work at the USW International Headquarters. In 2005, Mr. Redmond was elected International Vice President (Human Affairs). He has served on the boards of Working America, the TransAfrica Forum, and the A. Philip Randolph Institute. He is also a representative for the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists and has served on the AFL-CIO’s Executive Council since 2008.
