Inter-Faith Groups and Survivors of Hurricane Katrina Want Fair Distribution of Jobs for Misplaced and Underemployed Workers from the Region

The rebuilding of the Gulf Region is an opportunity for those devastated by Hurricane Katrina to rebuild their lives. Unfortunately, those who were left behind in the evacuation of the Gulf Coast Region are being left behind again in the rebuilding effort.

The Bush Administration has suspended the Davis-Bacon Act that effectively reduces wages for workers in the region and awarded no-bid, sole source construction contracts to well-connected companies. There is a lack of targeted, meaningful job training and accountability in hiring practices for displaced Gulf-area residents. There is little or no public input from the region’s citizens on the rebuilding process.

Speak up for Worker Justice now!
Urge your representative and senators to ensure fair wages for workers hired to rebuild the Gulf Coast and demand that Congress create an independent Ethical Reconstruction Commission to oversee the rebuilding effort.
