Urgent--Fair Minimum Wage Act Moves to the Senate
A job should keep you out of poverty, not keep you in it.
Thanks to the hard work of supporters nationwide who inundated their Congressional Representatives with calls to support a clean vote on the minimum wage – the U. S. House of Representatives passed the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 by a vote of 315 to 116. 82 Republicans joined 233 Democrats to pass the bill in the House.
Please urge your two Senators to support a clean vote on the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 – sponsored by Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA).
Nearly 13 million low-paid workers would benefit from a raise in the federal wage floor. Workers are a decade overdue for a raise.
Call your two Senators today and urge them to support a clean vote without delay. A clean vote would raise the minimum wage without amendments that would actually lower the wages of some workers or would provide more tax breaks to the rich.
Step 1: Call 1-866-338-1015, toll-free, to be connected to the U.S. Capitol Switchboard.
Step 2: Ask to be connected to the Senator’s office.
Find your Senator now.
Step 3: Ask to speak to the staff person who handles minimum wage issues:
Step 4: Say, Hi, my name is _____. I’m a constituent. Please tell Senator ____ to vote for S.2, the bill to increase the minimum wage for the first time in 10 years. Please pass a clean bill, with no tax breaks for business and no changes that hurt workers. Will Senator _____ vote in favor of S. 2?
After calling, please call or email Elisabeth Solomon at 773-728-8400 ext. 42 to let IWJ know the result of your call.
