Seminary Summer: Putting Faith Into Action!
Local Unions/Clergy to Host Summer Internships
Seminary Summer is a new 10-week paid internship program, jointly sponsored by the Interfaith Worker Justice and the AFL-CIO to involve 25 future religious leaders in worker campaigns for dignity, respect, and justice in the workplace.
Not only are we fighting for low-wage workers today, but we are preparing young people from a variety of religious backgrounds to carry the fight tomorrow, said Kim Bobo, executive director of the Interfaith Worker Justice, a nationally recognized religious organization addressing worker justice issues and rebuilding alliances with labor. Were excited about this historic opportunity.
Over the course of the summer program, participants will:
- witness worker struggles for a voice in the workplace;
- discover how unions can be a vehicle for achieving social justice;
- work with religious, community and union activists to build support for worker organizing unions;
- find ways to include worker justice in future ministry.
The program will begin in Chicago on June 12, 2000 and will seek students
from across the country and from a variety of faith traditions. THE
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION IS MARCH 31, 2000. Please help us identify
interested students by sharing this information with your readers.
